Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael Distributes Operational Vehicles To Special Local Hunters Squad In Kabba
The Special Local Hunters Squad is a local response to sustain peace and order in Kogi State.
The Caretaker Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael, on Thursday inaugurated the Kabba/Bunu LGA Special Local Hunters Squad, codenamed “Operation Smoke Them Out” to fight against criminality in the local government area.
He said the outfit will help combat crimes in collaboration with the police and other federal security agencies.
The Chairman spoke at the event, that took place at the Council Chamber of Kabba/Bunu LGA Secretariat.
He highlighted the efforts of his government at improving the security sector by supporting the federal security agencies in the state with the provision of patrol vehicles, communication gadgets and other logistics.
“As I said during the official launch of this outfit in May 2024, our state integration, through Special Local Hunters Squad, should be seen in one light. We are coming together to fight a common enemy.
“Never again will invaders come into Kabba/Bunu LGA without a local response from us. Special Local Hunters Squad is our local response.
“Special Local Hunters Squad is, indeed, a first of its kind security agency, because it is a local security outfit.
“Since its founding, we have been taking steps to ensure that the security outfit commences operations.
In June 2024, the Kogi State House of Assembly passed the Local Hunters Bill 2024, which the Governor signed into law a few days later.”
Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael said security had always been an issue close to his heart.
“We have appointed two qualified men as commandant and deputy commandant of the Local Hunters Squad, the persons of Chief Basil Adekunle and Mr Isiaka. We also have other eminent persons on the board. I am confident that under them, the Special Local Hunters Squad will live up to their objectives.”
Reacting to the chairman’s speech, the Commandant of the Local Hunters, Basil Adekunle, said the selected hunters “are well-informed and well-equipped to take care of how they conduct themselves and relate with other security agencies”.
The engaged security outfit, code-named “Operation Smoke Them Out” is to defend the local government area against indiscriminate killings, kidnappings, banditry and destruction of farmland.
