In a resounding call for unity and shared responsibility, the Caretaker Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna (DSTV), underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring the security of lives and property within the community. On the evening of January 10th, 2024, the Chairman reiterated that security is a collective concern that requires the active participation of all stakeholders and the local security agency.

Addressing the pressing issue of security, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna emphasized that maintaining peace and security is not solely the responsibility of the government but a duty shared by every individual within the local government. He stated, “Security is everybody’s business, and any serious government that wants to get the support of its citizens must take security seriously.”

Despite acknowledging the challenges faced by the security agencies in Ijumu Local Government due to a shortage of manpower and logistics, the Chairman commended their dedicated efforts. In response to this, he pledged continuous support from both the royal fathers and village heads in the council area, forming a robust alliance with the security agencies.

Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna highlighted the significance of passing credible intelligence information to the appropriate authorities, emphasizing the role of community leaders in forging sustainable synergies with security forces. Expressing his commitment to the cause, the Chairman stressed, “Without peace and security in the local government, Ijumu cannot develop.” He urged the residents of the area to play an active role by providing useful information to the police, fostering a collective front against crimes and criminal activities.

Acknowledging the efforts of all royal fathers, security agencies, and stakeholders, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna expressed optimism about the future. He confidently declared, “Ijumu Local Government Area will be one of the safest and most peaceful local governments among the twenty-one (21) local government areas in the state, where residents can sleep with their two eyes closed.”
