Leadership is not a rank or position to be attained, leadership is an act of service to be given to the people who beckons on their leaders to deliver a working system for the benefit of the citizens and especially; the most vulnerable amongst them. This notion has best described Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, The Honorable Commissioner for Education, Bauchi State.
Dr. Jamila’s appointment to spearhead the Ministry of Education in Bauchi State is no doubt one among many other steps taken in the perfect and right direction of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi). Simply because, her giant strides in the past few months of being appointed has confirmed her readiness and capability to take the ministry education to an enviable height, which she has proven in less than one year; having reeled out working policies that are beneficial and crystal clear to the public.
It is so true that, those who have excelled in their personal affairs have a very high tendency of manifesting excellence when allotted a task; this is evident following her enormous antecedents until her call to lead the Ministry of Education. She thrived as a Lecturer with Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and a Policy and Communication Consultant with various Development Partners and International Organizations like USAID, FCDO, UNDP, Open Contracting Society and Reboot among others.
The Honourable Commissioner’s quest to make indelible footprint in her career as a Communication Strategist and Consultant, has made her bagged a Bachelor degree, Masters and Ph.D (In- view) in Mass Communication from Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Bayero University Kano respectively, A doctorate in education ( Ed. D. Honaris Causa) from Commonwealth University.
Furthermore, The “Mother of Quality Education” also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from National Teachers Institute Kaduna, Certificate in Leadership Strategy and Development from African Centre for Leadership Strategy and Development and several certificates in Management, Leadership, Research and Policy from different institutions like Institute for Development Research and Training Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, French Institute for Research in Africa, Centre for Human Rights Faculty of Law University of Pretoria/UNESCO, Department of African Studies John Hopkins University and Centre for Information Technology Advancement among others. To mention but few; she also have other areas of interest which spans beyond governance and development communication.
In her bid to promote access to quality education, and to relieve parents with multiple bills to pay, she facilitated the payment of over 300 million naira for NECO examination fees of all students in public schools within the state. Likewise, the payment of JAMB registration fee to over two-thousand Students. The teaching and administrative staff were not left out as staff welfare has been prioritized through implementation of Incentives and commendation for performance. In general, tremendous change has been made and her administration runs an open door policy, which has attracts partnership with critical stakeholders, Non governmental organizations and members of the public, working together to advance the state of education in Bauchi State and moving it to an enviable height.
Undoubtedly, the Education Ministry has never had it this good since inception, and one of the reasons for Dr. Jamila Mohammed’s giant strides as the Commissioner for Education, is not far fetched from how progressive minded she is, her knowledgeability in discharging her administrative duties; effectively and efficiently and her go-getter attitude. With these solid track records that has been set in less than one year of her assumption in office, coupled with academic prowess, she is worthy of being classified as a well rounded woman.
The Bauchi State Ministry of Education is obviously wearing a positive transformational look as it appears clearly distinguished with her sterling strides in areas of policies and its implementations both for students and staffers.
The Governor’s eagle’s eyes that has found Jemila Dahiru as the commissioner for education, has proven to know the right person for the job as she has within this short period, shown to be a round peg in a round hole.
Continue to do the excellence in public service which clearly reveals that this is what you are good at the world will continue to celebrate your reign and good works. This so to further encourage you to continue doing your incredible wonders for the people of Bauchi state under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed.
