The man in this picture is my hugest hero! He is Chief John Kayode Fanwo,
the Obaholo of Takete Ide.
He was my first teacher, my mentor, my fiercest adviser and a teacher forever.
There is something about us children of teachers. My parents were both teachers, English Language experts. They were both uncompromising disciplinarians. You must speak, faultless, impeccable English. Since they were both Communications experts and teachers, they always told me to make myself well understood. It is not the high-sounding words that make you a great English speaker, but your ability to make yourself understood.
Mind the tenses. Mind the agreement. He was so particular about the small details.
At JSS 3, he was always bringing copies of WAEC marked scripts.
My mum may be gone physically, she was a great teacher. Maybe I didn’t celebrate her enough when she was alive. I am going to do a piece about her soon.
Dad, thanks for being a good father and a good example as a man at peace with the society. Your name opened doors. I won’t destroy that name.
All of us are proud of you. You are a good man. Always working to improve others.
May you live long and reap more of the fruits you worked for.
