Breaking News: Ijumu LG Boss Orders immediate Closure of Zango Market Iyara Over Security Concerns
Fri. 14th March 2025
The Ijumu Local Government Council Chairman has ordered the immediate closure of the Zango Cattle Market in Iyara due to pressing security concerns.
Confirming the development in an interview early today, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim, stated that intelligence reports indicated the market had become a hideout for criminals, including kidnappers and others.
Investigations revealed that following the closure of similar markets in parts of Kogi State, particularly in Kogi Central, criminal activities had shifted to the Iyara Zango Market.

In response to these threats, the council has shut down the market indefinitely, with security agencies deployed to enforce compliance. The Chairman emphasized that the directive was issued in line with the mandate of the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to eliminate all criminal activities tarnishing the image of the Local Government and the State.
He reiterated that the safety of residents and travelers remains the top priority, warning that any individual or group attempting to undermine government efforts will face the full force of the law.
