HON. WEMI JONES BLUE PRINT TO MAKE KABBA/BUNU THE HUB OF CASSAVA AND MAIZE PRODUCTIONS
The Kogi State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones (FCIB) in his contribution to Kogi State Economic development through an innovative Blue print on Agriculture, in efforts and priority towards enhancing food security through a sustainable empowerment and holistic regeneration in the area of agriculture, the Lagos bred seasoned Banker and Bunu nutured enigma, Wemi Jones has embarked on Agro Processing, Enhancement and Livelihood Support project in Ayede Bunu, Kabba Bunu local government of Kogi State.
The project covers hundreds of hectares planted with maize and cassava. The project that has taken off many years back before he ventured into active politics, received massive boost this year with the cultivation of over one hundred hectares of land in its first phase with more phases to be included in the next raining season.
At the end of this farming season, harvesting of maize is on going, with over hundred metric tonnes of maize already harvested into the warehouse waitingfor milling process.
The farm according to the Education Commissioner, who is also an Avid Investor in financial emancipation of his people stated that, the farm when fully developed to it’s planned capacity, will not only provide personal benefits but will in the long run, contribute to economic development of the state, providing food and income to the people, wealth generation, provision of cassava root glot which has been a major shortage and ultimately sustainable job creation for the locals as many of them presently make their daily earnings from the farm.
According to the Commissioner, the massive production of both maize and cassava will contribute to development of industries in the state with emphasis on industrial use and thereby increasing state’s export capacity.
