THE  PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA IN AN INTERVIEW   ON CHANNELS TELEVISON: SPOKE ON  10 KEY POINTS TO NOTE ON SECURITY IN 2022.
BUHARI SAID
1.  Some notable progress has been made with security in the North East. From 18 communities, there is now no Local government held by terrorist in the region.
2. There has been notable improvement in security in the North West and North Central in the past 6 weeks.
3. We can’t do much about the weather but as for security we have taken steps with the Service Chiefs and IGP and we are seeing results that we thank God for. He said this when asked if the improvement in security in the NW and NC was not as a result of the season and a relapse was possible when there is a change of weather.
4. He asked Former Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbe and the present Minister Mohammed Abubakar to go back to gazette of 1st republic when cattle routes and grazing areas where in place. Cattles that strayed were arrested. Grazing areas are to be put in place so herders don’t encroach into people’s farm/town.
5. To find lasting solution to insecurity in Nigeria, you have to address the problem of culture.
6. Herders depend solely on castles for their livelihood. When these catties are taken, they become violent, that’s a cultural problem. To resolve that, you have to secure grazing areas and water points for them.
7. The role of traditional rulers in tackling insecurity must not be undermined. They know the people in their communities and they also provide intelligence report. We have to revert to that system to have security in our localities.
8. Herders and Farmers have always co habited peacefully. Why are herders now extending into people’s farms?  This is largely as a break in communication between local leadership and herders.
9. State Policing is not an option.
10. There is a faulty relationship between local governments and Governors.
