Kogi State University, Kabba Concludes 2023/2024 Academic Calendar: Milestones and Achievements
Kogi State University (KOSU), Kabba, has successfully wrapped up its first academic calendar for the 2023/2024 session. The academic year, which officially began on January 16, 2024, with the resumption of students, concluded on Friday, September 27, 2024, after the completion of final examinations. This marks a significant milestone in the institution’s journey toward academic excellence and progress.
Last December, KOSU Kabba admitted 1,200 new students who embarked on their educational pursuits in January. Over the course of nine months, these students engaged in a robust curriculum that aligns with the university’s mission to offer intellectual, moral, and techno-vocational training, producing well-rounded graduates equipped to meet the challenges of today’s world.
In a press briefing attended by senior university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Professor K.I.T. Eniola, University Librarian Dr. Mbashir Abdulateef Olanrewaju, Director of Academic Planning Professor O.O. Ifatimehin, Dean of Students Affairs Dr. Joseph Enimola, Dean of Science and Computing Dr. Lamidi Yusuf, Dean of Arts and Humanities Dr. Joshua Ajenifaari, and University Auditor Mr. Abedoh Samuel Amoto, the leadership of KOSU provided a review of the institution’s achievements and notable events during the academic session.

Professor Eniola highlighted several key accomplishments. Among them was an agribusiness exhibition organized by students from the Business Administration department, which showcased their entrepreneurial skills and innovations. Additionally, the Theatre Arts department delivered two captivating presentations that enthralled the university community, while the Mass Communication department held a successful African Communication Day event, further demonstrating the university’s focus on practical learning.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor expressed deep gratitude to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and the current Governor, Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman, for their unwavering support of the institution. He noted that their contributions have been pivotal in the university’s progress, stating, “Their support is over 100%.” The VC also extended his appreciation to the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, for his commitment to educational development in the state.
Furthermore, Professor Eniola acknowledged the invaluable advice and support of Dr. Victoria Olusola Jagboro, Provost of Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa. He praised her motherly guidance, which has had a positive impact on the university. The contributions of various organizations and individuals who have supported the university since its inception were also commended.
One of the highlights of the academic session was the university’s participation in the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), an initiative spearheaded by the federal government under President Bola Tinubu. Through this program, 101 students from KOSU Kabba received financial aid, easing their academic burdens and helping them focus on their studies.
Looking Ahead: 2024/2025 Academic Session
As the university gears up for the 2024/2025 academic session, Professor Eniola announced that the new session will commence in November 2024. He also reassured prospective students that the institution’s cutoff mark for admission remains 170, maintaining a balance between accessibility and academic standards.
In addition to the cutoff mark, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that KOSU Kabba plans to admit 1,750 students for the 2024/2025 academic year. He emphasized that qualified candidates who selected the university as their first choice would be considered for admission into various programs. The university’s admission process will account for national merit quotas, state merit quotas, and catchment area quotas, ensuring fairness and inclusivity.
Furthermore, the university portal for the 2024/2025 admission application and Post-UTME screening has been opened for candidates who chose KOSU Kabba as their first choice. This step highlights the institution’s commitment to transparency and the seamless processing of applications.
During the press briefing, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the generous support of ODA – North America, which donated 400 classroom chairs, significantly enhancing the university’s infrastructure. He also expressed appreciation to Pa Samuel for his donation of 100 palm seedlings, vintage furniture, and assorted stationery, which have further enriched the learning environment.
Mr. Oshaloto Tade, the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), extended his heartfelt appreciation to the media for their consistent support and coverage of the university’s activities. He assured journalists that the university, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, is committed to providing timely and comprehensive information to the public and ensuring open communication with the media.
