Hon. Wemi Jones engages with private school proprietors in Kogi State to discuss education development and collaboration
The Honourable commissioner for Education, Hon Wemi Jones FCIB, had a fruitful engagement with the standing committee on education of the Kogi State House of Assembly, chaired by Hon. Idris Aliu, alongside the National Association of Proprietors of Schools (NAPS) and Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS), to discuss education development and the way forward.
During the meeting, Hon. Wemi Jones expressed his gratitude to the house of assembly for the opportunity to share his views. Drawing from his experience in the private sector before assuming his current role, he emphasized the importance of collaborating with school proprietors. He acknowledged the challenges they face, particularly with regards to multiple taxation, and assured them of his support.
Addressing the matter of attention brought before the standing committee, Hon. Wemi Jones referenced the education law of Kogi State and reiterated that his actions are in line with the law. He encouraged the school owners to direct their concerns to the ministry of education for necessary resolution.
The meeting also featured members of the standing committee, including Hon. Jacob Sam Olawumi and Hon. Ebaya Bin Shehu Tijani. The State Commissioner for Education, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, and the Chairpersons of the Proprietors of Private Schools and Model Islamic Schools were also in attendance.
The engagement highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and private school proprietors for the advancement of education in Kogi State. hon. Wemi Jones reiterated his commitment to supporting the private schools sector and ensuring that they can continue to provide quality education to students in the state.
