2025 World NTD Day Awareness Campaign Held at Kogi State University, Kabba

In partnership with Sightsavers and the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria, Kogi State University, Kabba, hosted an awareness campaign to commemorate World NTD Day. The Coordinator Dr. Yusuf Lamidi thanked the Vice Chancellor for being open to the community service mandate of the university. At the event was the assistant coordinator, Dr. Olubiyo Comfort Kehinde, and other senior members in the department of Microbiology including Dr. Bonaventure Tientche, and Dr. Oloninefa Stephen Dare .

Vice Chancellor Prof. KIT Eniola welcomed the Kogi State Health Ministry representatives and expressed the university’s commitment to societal responsibilities. He highlighted the importance of educating students about neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and strengthening collaboration with health authorities.

Prof. Eniola announced a hands-on project for all biological sciences students, involving water quality testing in the communities of Gbeleko, Okedayo, Kakun, Egbeda, and surrounding areas. He committed to providing testing kits for the students, with the activity scheduled for next week.

This event underscored the university’s role in addressing public health issues and fostering community engagement through education and practical initiatives.

Mr. Ayodele Raphael, Local Government Immunization Officer for Kabba Bunu, delivered a key address, emphasizing the importance of the National Tropical Diseases Control, Elimination, and Eradication program. He urged the community to take proactive measures by utilizing tropical medication annually to prevent tropical blindness and related diseases.

The campaign aimed to educate students, staff, and the local community about the risks and prevention strategies for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), promoting a healthier and more informed society.
