Iyara Community Visits Ijumu Executive Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna -Discusses Pressing Issues relating to Security, Zango market, Local Government shops in iyara market, overall growth and development of Iyara community
Representatives from the Iyara community, including the traditional council, market women, youths, socio-economic, and religious groups, paid a solidarity visit to the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna. The visit aimed to address key concerns affecting the community, particularly security, the operation of the Zango cattle market, and market development.
The community leaders commended the Chairman for his dedication to the progress of Iyara but expressed concerns over the activities at the Zango cattle market. They stressed the need for stricter monitoring and control to ensure the market operates within acceptable regulations. Additionally, they raised concerns about the structure of local government shops in Iyara, noting that their current state limits the market’s Operations and affects economic growth. Security was another major issue discussed, with the representatives calling for stronger measures to protect lives and properties in the area.
In response, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna appreciated the community for their proactive approach to governance and assured them that the local government is committed to addressing their concerns. He announced several resolutions regarding the Zango cattle market, including a ban on residential activities within the market, trading restrictions from 7 AM to 7 PM, and mandatory registration of all business shops and shop security personnel.
On the issue of local government shops in Iyara, he assured the representatives that a structured approach would be adopted in consultation with local government management to promote market growth.
Regarding security, the Chairman promised a more structured approach with collaboration between the community and security personnel. He also gave immediate approval for ten local hunters to be placed on salary to serve on the community night watch, strengthening security efforts within the area.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both the local government and the Iyara community reaffirming their commitment to collaboration for the development, security, and well-being of the people.
