Kabba-Bunu PDP Chairmanship Candidate Sounds Alarm Over Lack of Transparency in Local Government Elections – Will SIEC Uphold Fairness or Fall Short
With less than 5 days to go until the local government council elections in Kabba-Bunu, Hon Segun Modeyin, the PDP Chairmanship Candidate, has raised concerns over the lack of transparency and preparation on the part of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
Modeyin expressed his frustration at the fact that the SIEC has yet to display the voters register in all polling units, a crucial step in ensuring a free and fair election. He also noted that the SIEC office is not known to any of the contestants from other political parties, with no designated office at the local government areas.
In addition, Modeyin pointed out that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has not been carrying out any sensitisation campaigns towards the local government election, raising doubts about the level of voter education and awareness. He also highlighted the absence of a security meeting being called ahead of the elections, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a safe and secure voting process.
Furthermore, Modeyin questioned the readiness of the electoral umpires, noting that the SIEC returning officers for various local government areas are still unknown at this late stage. He called on the SIEC to prove their commitment to transparency and fairness in the election process, urging them to address these concerns before the polling day arrives.
As the countdown to the elections continues, the electorate in Kabba-Bunu are left wondering if they can trust the State Independent Electoral Commission to oversee a truly transparent and unbiased election.
