Strides towards Educational Excellence: Kogi State Government Establishes Education Monitoring Team

Employs Multi-Stakeholder Approach to Elevate Education Standards

In a proactive move to elevate the standards of primary and secondary education in Kogi State, the government has announced plans to establish an Education Monitoring Team across all 21 Local Government Areas. The meticulously appointed Eleven Man Team consists of members from various educational stakeholders including NUT, ASUSS, ES, AEE’s, NAPPS, AMIS, Religious and Traditional Institutions, PTA, Youth Organizations, among others, ensuring a comprehensive representation.

This initiative was unveiled by the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, during a stakeholders meeting for the reformation of the Education Task Force held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, in Lokoja. The Education Monitoring Team is tasked with the critical role of monitoring, inspecting, and evaluating primary and secondary schools, guaranteeing the full implementation of government policies and programs in the education sector.

Emphasizing the imperative of collaborative efforts to restore the prominence of education, Commissioner Jones stressed that effective teamwork is essential for tangible results. He underscored that education is not solely dependent on financial input but hinges on meticulous planning and robust execution of governmental initiatives. He further highlighted the significant investments already made by the State Government in education, emphasizing the commitment to safeguarding these resources.

Acknowledging the meticulous planning undertaken for the development of education within Kogi State since 2016, Commissioner Jones assured a continued focus on solidifying the existing foundation for educational progress. The government, under the leadership of Alhaji. Usman Ahmed Ododo, is dedicated to building upon the groundwork laid by its predecessor, Alhaji. Yahaya Bello, and ensuring the preservation of the substantial investments made in the education sector.

The Education Monitoring Team, as outlined by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Hon. Abdullahi Abdulmalik, will not only oversee school inspections but also engage in sensitization programs to steer students away from social vices. This holistic approach aims to foster a conducive educational environment that supports both academic excellence and character development.

The forum was graced by the presence of Education Secretaries from all 21 Local Government Areas of the State and Zonal Directors of Education, demonstrating a unified commitment to the establishment of the Education Task Force. The collective resolve is to reinforce the inspection and supervision of schools, ensuring continuous progress and excellence in the educational landscape of Kogi State.
