Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael Meets NURTW, Tricycle To Resolve Lingering Crisis, Cautions Against Violence
The Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Caretaker Chairman, Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael, today, met with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and Tricycle Okada Association of Nigeria, TOAN in Kabba to harmonize their interest in resolving the established crisis between the two unions and he cautioned them against instigating violence while doing their business.
The NURTW members were led by the state financial secretary, Alaba Ajibade; the Arewa Branch Secretary, Eseyin Adebayo and others.
While, members of the Tricycle Okada Association of Nigeria, TOAN were led by her Chairman, Mr Edward Olorunshogo to the meeting.
At the meeting, it was gathered that Zacchaeus, urged the members of the union to be more accommodating and that they should see themselves as one big indivisible family to enjoy more love and peace in their unions.
The decisive intervention of the caretaker chairman to resolve their differences played a crucial role in diffusing the tension between the NURTW and TOAN. This purposeful step has brought to light a power struggle that had the potential to escalate into a full-fledged conflict among transport unions in Kabba.
Due to crime, lawlessness and the scary figure of fatal accident, The Local Government has directed security operatives to embark on a total enforcement to immediately restrict the movement of the tricycle riders to other communities outside Kabba.
Moreso, the chairman advised members of the tricycle riders, TOAN to do their businesses within Kabba metropolis that his directive is to caution the tricycle riders not to be on the highways because, of the risk involved and for the security of the passengers.
Zacchaeus commended members of the Tricycle Okada Association of Nigeria, TOAN for the services rendered to the community which he equally admonish them to always remain within Kabba and not going for inter-community services.
After a robust assessment of the debate on what has been widely referred to as the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and Tricycle (Keke) menace, the Local Government and the State Security Council have decided that the security and safety of lives of Kabba/Bunu LGA residents are so paramount.
In a strategic move to prevent this brewing conflict, Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael brokered a resolution between key stakeholders, leading to significant changes in the union’s mode of operations.
The Chairman, alongside key officials such as LGA Secretary; Hon Oyenibi Omojola Ajon, Chief of Staff; Hon Emmanuel Aiyeditan, Supervisor for Budget and Planning; Hon Ojo Olayinka, Supervisor for Agriculture; Hon Rufus Eniolorunda, and other high-profile appointees were all in attendance.
