A SPEECH DELIVERED BY– Dr. JAGBORO VICTORIA OLUSOLA, THE PROVOST KOGI STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (TECHNICAL), MOPA, ON THE 12TH MATRICULATION CEREMONY HELD ON TUESDAY 7TH MAY, 2024

PROTOCOL
It is with great appreciation to God that I welcome everyone to the 12th Matriculation Ceremony of Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa.

Permit me to express our gratitude to the Visitor, His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, for his unwavering support and effort towards the school. We believed His Excellency’s assurance and commitment to rebuild the School in Mopa has drawn Technical and Vocational Education closer to the rural dwellers. My administration will remain loyal and do everything germane in the promotion of the change mantra of the State Government especially as it affects education.

Today’s event is important because it marks the official enrollment of the matriculating students into our College academic programmes and in line with the approval of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the last matriculation in Kabba. I trust that God will use this College to nurture your growth and development in every facet of life. I congratulate your parents/guardians on the central role they have played in your lives. It is my prayer that their labour will not be in vain.

Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa is a student centered and community engaged Institution. Our goal and the true existence is to develop students into active citizens that will be useful to themselves and also contribute meaningfully in building sustainable communities through our Technical and Vocational training nationally and globally to make themselves reliant.

As you begin this new phase, remember that education is a transformative journey, not just a destination. Embrace the opportunities, challenges, and experiences that lie ahead with curiosity, enthusiasm, and an open heart.

Having therefore obtained placement in this great College, it is your duty to apply yourselves productively to your academic endeavours. It is important that you acquire the necessary attitudes, skills and character that will enable you find fulfillment in a world that is increasingly competitive. This means that you must be creative and innovative in order to make an indelible mark wherever you are found.

In addition to academic attainments, this College places a very high premium on character. We believe that it is character that defines a man, an institution or a Community. We must insist on good character and attitude that is sensitive to the Environment and that promotes healthy interaction and exchange among citizens. We see ourselves, staff and students alike, as custodians of the common good, stewards of the many generous endowments of our Universe and humanity that must be harnessed, nurtured and preserved for posterity.

Consequently, I hasten to remind you that anti-social behavior has no place on this Campus. The College authority will be firm in confronting all forms of anti-social behavior wherever it is found on this campus. Students engaging in or planning to engage in cultism, examination malpractice, extortion, intimidation, indecent dressing etc, should know that they have two options: either change and pursue the path of rectitude or be shown the way out. I urge you to resist any overtures to join groups that operate clandestinely and canvas to promote violence and deviance deleterious behavior.

In conclusion, let me remind you of the matriculation oath that you have just taken. By taken the oath and signing the matriculating register, you have made a faithful promise on your honour to abide by all the content of the oath.

Congratulations once again on your matriculation and warm welcome to this noble institution. Enjoy your stay at the College and make the most out of the opportunity.

Finally, as this is the last matriculation ceremony in Kabba, to all our guest see you in Mopa at the next matriculation.

MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU ALL (AMEN).
