Ijumu LGA To Benefit From ACReSAL Project – National Coordinator
Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State is to benefit from the World Bank supported project known as Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL).
National Coordinator of ACReSAL, Mr. Abdulhamid Umar made this known in a message during a visit to the Caretaker Chairman at the Local Government Secretariat, Iyara.
Represented by Mrs. Rachel Anuwe, the National Coordinator said a committee will be set up to include the Chairman, Heads of Department of Work, Agriculture and Environment as members.
Other members according to him are facilitators, who are subject Specialist and relevant Non Governmental Organisations.
According to him, the committee will be responsible for the overall supervision of the project at the local government level.
“The committee will also act as liaison to the State Project Management Unit and Secretariat, Departments, and Agencies.
He described ACReSAL as a laudable initiative which Ijumu LGA was lucky to be a part of.
According to the Coordinator, the project which aims at promoting sustainable development and community empowerment through interventions in projects that will address the challenges of land degradation and climate Change on a multi-dimensional scale.
The Transition Caretaker Chairman Ijumu, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna in his response, urged the benefiting farmers of the project to see it as a prime opportunity to enhance their living standards .
The Caretaker, further enjoined the beneficiaries to foster a sense of ownership and encourage community participation in aspects of the project being implemented at community and households.
On his part, the Olujumu of Ijumu Land, HRM Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni JP, described the partnership with ACReSAL as a brilliant move by the Caretaker Chairman, saying such initiative shows that he is concerned about the welfare of his people.
Hon. Paul Adebayo, who spoke on behalf of the Farmers, appreciated the team, saying the programme will go a long way in addressing the menace of farmers-herdsmen clashes.
