Ijumu Caretaker Chairman Warns Against Indiscriminate Land Allocation
The Transition Caretaker Chairman of Ijumu LGA, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna has cautioned Traditional Rulers and people of the Area against what he called “indiscriminate land allocation.”
The caretaker Chairman handed down the warning during a one day community engagement with Traditional Ruler, Chiefs and Stakeholders from Iluagba Gbede at Iyara, the local government Secretariat.
Alhaji Haruna said the warning became imperative as the State Government has placed embargo illegal allocation of land and signing of Community Development Agreement.
According to him, effective town planning plays a pivotal role in shaping any community.
The caretaker Chairman highlights the importance of town planning in incorporating urban design principles, zoning regulations, infrastructure planning, and public engagement strategies, to create communities that are not only functional but also conducive to a high planning environment.
He promised to partner with the Town Planning Board in monitoring and approval of any building plan in line with global best practice.
While identifying the roles of traditional, religious and community leaders in sustainable peace in the local government, the Caretaker Chairman urged them not to destroy their own efforts by using their positions to cause conflict through sale or illegal allocation of land in their areas.
He further advised them not to engage in any act capable of disrupting the peace in the area, especially issues of land allocation.
Responding on behalf of the Community, Mr S.K Joel, a Former Chief Maintenance Officer, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, appreciated the caretaker Chairman for his quick intervention in the manner of which land is allocated and building without approval from the town planning.
He stated that such an illegal and unprofessional act can lead to futures security treat to the host community and even the neighborhood communities.
