Okun People of Nigeria and her place in Governance!
Post November 11 2023 Election, speculations were ravaging the political space that Okun people would not vote in favour of APC, not because their sons were on the ballot but because there were insinuations that Okun people are ready to disappoint the party and Alh. Yahaya Bello as claimed by agents of mischief and propagandists, even within Kogi West Senatorial district.
But, you will also agree with me your Excellencies that the Okun People of Nigeria collectively voted in favor of APC than even the Lokoja/Koto Federal Constituency whose vote was earlier envisaged to be the springboard, how to be it, Lokoja and Kotonkarfi Federal Constituency’s vote was not only a few to that of Okun People within the West but they ended up giving above 25% to the SDP candidate in the last Gubernatorial Election Respectively. Whereas in the case of Okun People, the SDP Gubernatorial Candidate not only faced rejection but couldn’t score near 25% in five (5) LGA of Okun Land, unlike our sister Constituency that gave above 25% vote to the SDP candidate.
The Okun people are by this open letter, appealing to your Excellencies to please reward loyalty, hard work, and commitment in Okun people, by fielding an Okun personality into the position of Secretary to the State Government among other offices and requests.
We may recall that Okun had the Speaker of the State Assembly and SSG at the same time but it may also interest you to know that, within Kogi Western District, Lokoja/ Kotokarfi had the position of Hon. Minister of State for FCT Rt Hon Alfa imam was speaker from same Constituency until he fell apart from the system.
As of today, The Rt Hon speaker is from Lokoja/Kotokarfi Federal Constituency within Kogi West and Okun People wishes to retain the Position of Secretary to the State Government.
We therefore appeal to your Excellencies to consider the above request/appeal, having written same in good faith and the spirit of fairness and equity.
