In a meeting of the Parents Teacher’s Association (P.T.A) at Okebukun High School in Kabba/Bunu area of Kogi State on Wednesday, December 6th, Principal Hon. Owootomo Oshe Abodunde commended the remarkable strides of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello in the education sector. The focus was on the ongoing GYB Model Science Secondary School project, which has witnessed a substantial overhaul of school structures, nearing 95% completion after 13 months of continuous efforts.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Abodunde acknowledged the inconveniences faced by students and parents due to the temporary use of confined classrooms during the extensive renovation project. Drawing a parallel with the process of refining gold, he expressed the belief that enduring challenges are part of the journey toward excellence, emphasizing the school’s motto: “Education and Perseverance.” He urged understanding, particularly during this period of transformation.
Highlighting the historical significance, the Principal declared that Governor Bello’s administration had achieved landmark success in education, encompassing structural development projects, academic reforms, teacher recruitment, and various school initiatives. He called for continued support and consolidation from the government’s successor.
Commending the Commissioner of Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, for his exceptional leadership, the Principal extended gratitude to the Olu of Okebukun, the Okebukun Development Association (ODA), parents, teachers, and individuals contributing to the school’s well-being.
However, amidst the commendations, the Principal appealed to the state government for prompt action regarding the ongoing inconveniences. He stressed that the increasing student population, coupled with the ambitious project, had exacerbated the challenges faced by the school community.
P.T.A Chairman, Pst. Olowoniyi Kehinde, echoed the sentiments of parents, expressing appreciation for Governor Bello’s commitment to education. He urgently appealed for the immediate opening of the completed classrooms, citing daily complaints from students about the discomfort, especially during the winter period, when classrooms become overheated due to the sun.
Parents, individually and collectively, joined the chorus of commendation and appealed for swift action to address the challenges faced by their children in the learning environment.
In conclusion, Principal Abodunde emphasized the urgent need for the state government’s intervention to ensure the swift resolution of the challenges and inconveniences faced by Okebukun High School. The increased student population, coupled with the commendable ongoing project, underscores the urgency for immediate action to provide a conducive learning atmosphere for all.
