In a recent legal battle, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Senator Dino Melaye filed an ex parte injunction on September 12th, seeking to halt the activities of the Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency. The parties argued that the creation of the agency violated constitutional provisions.
The case was brought before the High Court in Lokoja and presided over by Justice Ruth Alfa. However, in a ruling on September 25th, the motion was struck out, as the judge deemed the ex parte injunction to be defective. Consequently, the court did not delve into the merits of the injunction itself.
Following this development, the General Manager of the Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency announced that the defacement and removal of all unauthorized forms of outdoor advertisement would commence immediately. He urged the public to visit the agency and complete any necessary payments for outdoor advertising.
Expressing gratitude for the law-abiding and peaceful conduct of the people of Kogi State, the General Manager promised to fulfill the mandate of the agency in bringing order and sanity to the advertisement landscape.
This ruling marks an important step, with the Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency now free to pursue its efforts in regulating outdoor advertising within the state.
