Hon. Richard Osaseyi Advocates for Gender Equality and Education Innovations to Combat Violence Against Women

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA KOGI) recently organized a groundbreaking event at the Glass House in Kogi Government House, where the Honorable Richard Osaseyi, a prominent advocate for gender equality, took the stage as the guest speaker. The event’s theme, “Combating Violence Against Women and Children: New Strategies,” convened a diverse array of stakeholders to discuss pressing issues related to abuse and inequality.

During his keynote address, Hon. Richard Osaseyi highlighted the need for comprehensive efforts to address violence against both women and children. While acknowledging the existing emphasis on empowering girls to become good wives and mothers, he argued that society often neglects the boy child, resulting in a cycle of abuse that perpetuates through generations.

Osaseyi highlighted the importance of empowering girls through education and emphasizing their personal development. “Educating and empowering the girl child is instrumental in reducing the violence suffered at the hands of men,” he asserted. Recognizing that violence against women is a societal issue, Osaseyi emphasized the importance of fostering an environment that supports gender equality.

The guest speaker also lauded the educational innovations spearheaded by the Governor of Kogi, praising programs such as the payment for WAEC (West African Examinations Council), NECO (National Examinations Council), and JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) for students. These progressive policies aim to alleviate financial burdens on parents, ensuring that education is accessible to all, irrespective of socio-economic backgrounds.

Hon. Richard Osaseyi’s participation in the FIDA KOGI event served as a catalyst for thought-provoking conversations and action-oriented discussions on combating violence against women and children. His recognition of the importance of gender equality and education innovations, alongside his advocacy for the rights of both boys and girls, has reignited efforts to create a safer and more equal society in Kogi and beyond.

Furthermore, it is important to highlight that the humanitarian efforts of Hon. Richard Osaseyi have been recognized by the governor’s wife, Her Excellency Barrister. Mrs Amina Oyiza Bello. She acknowledged his foundation for its significant impact on the lives of citizens, particularly the indigents and downtrodden.

As the event concluded, participants were inspired and motivated to work collectively towards implementing new strategies to combat violence against women and children. Hon. Richard Osaseyi’s powerful message continues to resonate, leaving a lasting impact on all those devoted to empowering the most vulnerable members of society and creating a more equitable future.

Also at the event were notable citizens as the honourable Chief Judge of Kogi State, Honourable Justice J Mejabi, the honourable commissioner for health, the DG Office of the Public Defender and Citizen’s Rights amongst others.
