The Director General of GYB Legacies; OdodOyibo for All Support Group, Hon. Abraham Jacob, has on behalf of the independent support group, commend Governor Yahaya Bello for the political leadership and will he has displayed by declaring free education for pupils and students in public schools from primary to secondary levels which include the payment of BECE, Junior WAEC, Senior WAEC, NECO and JAMB.

The group noted that the governor’s devotion of 30% of the state’s budgetary allocation to education has further proven his passion and high priority on education, Insisting that the governor has laid a wonderful foundation best tagged “The GYB Legacy”.

Recall that the Kogi State Commissioner Education, Science Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones at a public function on Thursday in Lokoja, revealed that as part of the Education Intervention Programme of Kogi State 2023, the state government has declared free education at public primary and secondary schools in the state beginning from the next academic session which commences this month of September, 2023.

This free education policy of the state government according to the commissioner, covers the payment of examination fees for pupils sitting for their First School Leaving Certificate Examination, FSLCE, the Junior West African Examination Council, JWAEC, test, and the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, (SSCE). In addition, the commissioner further stated that the goodwill of the Bello’s administration will also offset the bills of the National Examination Commission, NECO, test and the cost of the Joint Administration And Matriculation Board, JAMB, examination.

The Director General of the GYB Legacies Group, noted that this decision is best described as “a decision in the right direction”, stating that it will go a long way in further positioning Kogi as one the states with top priority on education, therefore encouraging other states to emulate same.

While previous governments and individuals limited their benevolence on payment of these examination fees to just one of the many exams, the governor Yahaya Bello’s administration has gone further to declaring free education and payment of all of the exams for bother primary and secondary which includes; FSLCE, JWAEC, NECO and JAMB. This is unprecedented, he noted.

It is no news anymore that the Bello’s administration has placed special priority on education. It is worthy of mention that this administration has built and equipped the GYB model secondary schools across federal constituencies in the state. This same administration has recruited qualified graduates as teachers to these schools.

The giant strides of this administration on education is clean seen on the establishment of Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, in Kogi Central Senatorial District and the newly established Kogi State University, Kabba, in Kogi West Senatorial District of the state. This administration has clearly proven to show its love for education alongside other 8 thematic areas of its interest.
