KOGI 2024: It shall be about equity, fairness and justice, not propaganda, Kogi West Governorship Advocacy Group tell Rabble-rousers erecting billboards of disunity
The Kogi West Governorship Advocacy group have said only equity, fairness, justice and unity of the people of the state will be the defining factor for the 2024 gubernatorial election and not shenanigans or lame propaganda by any group, especially the faceless rent seekers who are currently engaging in propaganda to stand logic on its head.
The group made the statement in a press release made available to newsmen on Friday in Lokoja, the state capital, while reacting to a message that surfaced on a billboard circulating in the social media space where the proponents were suggesting a sixteen year gubernatorial rotational arrangement among the three senatorial districts and suggesting that the Kogi Central should continue for another eight years after the tenure of the incumbent Governor before it shifts to the Kogi West Senatorial district since the Eastern flank of the state have had it for sixteen years earlier. This political calculation is to us most preposterous, highly insulting, very embarrassing and a recipe for animosity among the people of the three senatorial districts.

The group further said the intention of the manipulators of the unintelligent suggestions is nothing but to cause disaffection, crisis and plunge the state into a very avoidable ethnic differences. The release which was signed by the Forum’s interim Chairman, Chief Aiyemowa Jeremiah note that the people of Kogi state may have experienced a senatorial district staying perpetually to the Governorship seat, but it has become old-fashioned, needless and avoidable because of its tendencies to raise uncontrollable ethnic differences, needless political confusion and slaughter equity, fairness and justice on the alter of greed and selfish inordinate ambition of a person of few persons.
Chief Aiyemowa cautioned any indigene of Kogi West who might be involved to desist from such unpatriotic act just as he enjoined people of Kogi Central to be magnanimous and brotherly enough to allow the west senatorial district have a taste of the office. He said although all Kogites have the fundamental human and constitutional rights to contest in all elections, but advised that we must demonstrate brotherhood, unity and maturity in a delicate issue like this for the good and future of the state.
A billboard have emerged earlier in the week with inscriptions that suggest that some faceless persons in Kogi Central are requesting for a continuity of governorship seat by another Ebira man after Governor Yahaya Bello. The release says the billboard which has generated a lot of reactions in the public seeks to test the waters to get the reaction of the public, but will ultimately plunge the state into an avoidable but serious crisis.
Chief Aiyemowa’s release further says that the group is set to begin a sensitization and awareness strategy and program that will educate the people and also wake the consciousness of the state against impending dangers the sinister plans of the wicked political propagandists seeks to achieve. He said the state can only develop in an atmosphere of equity, fairness and justice and the only thing that represent justice in this case is for the people of Kogi West to produce the next Governor of the state.
It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission recently released the timetable for conduct of the gubernatorial primary election for the state, ever after the announcement, political activities in the state have received popular attention and influx of people across the three senatorial district. In the coming election, there are different claims that are being advanced by different people and group to satisfy their political ambitions and intentions
