REJOINDER: NYCN Management Dissolves Exco, Sets Up Committee To Conduct Election.
It has come to the attention of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Edo State, of a publication making rounds on social media that the Comrade Osahon Obasuyi’s led administration has been dissolved and that a caretaker committee has been set up to direct the affairs of the council.
Much as the current NYCN leadership headed by Comrade Osahon Obasuyi is aware of the constitutional provisions in calling for a state management committee meeting and dissolution of executive, we wish therefore to state categorically that the aforementioned publication is very untrue and of no basis.
Those who unconstitutionally gathered in the disguise of an NYCN management committee did so impersonating the management of the NYCN Edo State.
The public should understand that majority the organizations listed as affiliate youth organizations at the so called management committee meeting are fiticious names and have no official records with the NYCN in Edo State and the Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues.
The imposters also lacks the constitutional powers to convene such meeting. According to Article 10.4:XVI of the NYCN 2018 constitution as amended, the management committee meeting is constitutionally convene by the state secretary at the instance of the Chairman. Neither are any of the attendees of the meeting the state secretary or chairman. Majority of them belongs to voluntary organizations that have no proper records with the NYCN or the Ministry of Youths and Gender Issues.
According to the provision of the constitution in Article 12.3 the gathering they refer to as management meeting isn’t empowered to dissolve an executive council.
In addition, the actual management committee meeting that should be regarded is the one convened in Ubiaja on Wednesday, 26th October, 2022 by the NYCN Edo State Secretary General Comrade Martins Igbafen at the instance of Mr Chairman, which had 16 out of 18 NYCN Local Governments Branches Coordinators, 13 out of all the 23 Affiliate Voluntary Youth Organizations, representative of the Honorable Commissioner Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues, as well as several stakeholders who observed the proceedings.
At this valid management meeting in Ubiaja, the management constitutionally constituted the Congress Planning Committee and Electoral Committee that will usher in the process of the next Elective Congress which will birth a new administration to direct the affairs of the apex youth organization in the state.
The NYCN leadership in Edo State therefore call on those fueling crisis in the council to desist from such act as the council had enjoyed relative peace in the last four years.
By this release, the general public is entreated to disregard any such publications of the dissolution of the Osahon Obasuyi’s led NYCN Executive and treat it with the contempt it deserves. The Congress Planning Committee and the Electoral Committee will make it public when the date and venue for the congress is fixed.
