The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones FCIB IION, has received an award of excellence in recognition of his outstanding performance and numerous contributions to the state education sector.
The Kogi State Medical Students Association, KOMSA presented the award to the Commissioner in his office in Lokoja, describing him as an icon of leadership and performance.
While receiving the award, the Commissioner commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his huge investment in education; saying subsequent administrations in the state would have no choice but to build on the solid structure of the present administration in education.
He said the governor is very passionate about education because it is the most enduring legacy to bequeath to the future generation affirming that efforts of the present government in education have started yielding results.
The Commissioner further said that medical students in the state would no longer be stagnant, asserting timely and appropriate trainings for them via the various hospitals under construction across the state.
“The era of stagnancy for medical students in the state is coming to an end, we are doing all we can to offer the best of qualities, to turn out the best medical students.
“The state government will produce medical personnel to make the hospitals under construction across the state functional.
“We are working on our health institutions; we are building a healthy and prosperous state”, he said.
The Commissioner commended KOMSA’s health intervention outreaches, promising the Ministry’s full support for their programmes.
Earlier, the National President of KOMSA, Wisdom Onu Oguche, said the award was in recognition of the leadership and administrative strides of Hon. Jones.
He said the Commissioner’s exceptional achievement under the New Direction government of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is outstanding, especially as students in the state tertiary institutions remained in school when others were on strike.
He commended the state government for the completion of the Prince Abubakar Audu University Hospital, Ayingba and the start-up of the College of Medicine at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
