In politics, especially in our clime as Nigerians, there is an imperative need to bridge the gap between the leaders in public office, either elected or appointed, and the led. Because many leaders had loosed touch with the grassroot owing to ideological differences, lack of workings and the inability to recognise and align with real party foundations and party Executives.
As we inch close to the 2023 general election, the party hierarchy must be circumspect in repeating the same mistake of 2019, especially as regard Kogi West Senate, where a new entrant was allowed to clinch the APC ticket and subsequently supported to victory at the polls, but afterwards appear strange to the party operation, to the extent his former party members dictate the tune, abandoning the real progressives that worked assiduously for his emergence.
Today, his performance falls short of the progressive standard. So much lamentations, because the real members had become an outcast in a party they laboured to build. We are now left as a people to covet for other Senators with compelling records of performance, because we have an obvious gap in our representation at the red chamber.
2023, we can’t afford to make the same error. How can someone who without any reservation, lambasted to high heavens on National TV the party, leaders and her modest effort to bring dividends of democracy to the people. Without micing words, such personae can never be truly progressive, rather, he has deceptively found an platform to fly his selfish aspiration. He has not found a home in APC, suffice to say, he has found a party plartform and people to use towards his agenda.
Such strange bed fellow will always find it hard to recognise and patronise the genuine members of the party, because he was never involved in the building process albinitio. Obviously, the Conservative working mechanism would also be an undoing in the world of the progressives. Leadership of such person will always bring disaffection and resentment amongst members, because he lacks the requisite knowledge about the party.
The crux of the issue is not ambiguous at all, it’s about bridging the gap with an unpaded, dedicated and unrepentant APC member to fly our party flag.
With that, he knows and feels where the shoe pinches members effortlessly, because he belongs to the system building from scratch. He knows the need of the party well enough and at the appropriate time. An inclusive and participatory reward system won’t lag behind in such elected officer.
Kogi West Senatorial seat, come 2023, it must be a Progressive for Progressives, if our desire is a Quality, Inclusive and People oriented representation.
