NIGERIA 61ST INDEPENDENCE; MAAI GREETS KOGITES AND NIGERIANS AT LARGE
On this auspicious occasion of the 61st Independence Anniversary of our nation, I felicitate with the good people of Kogi State, Okunland and my immediate constituents in Yagba Land.
Asiwaju said, In these six decades of independence, we have stayed together despite our multi-religious, multi-ethnic and multi-linguistic differences that seem to tear us apart and other external forces that appears to make integration impossible.
All these years, we have proved to the world that we have all it takes to remain one and indivisible nation under one God.
He said as a State, we have focused on the vision of our founding fathers to mould the necessary bricks that will build the Kogi of our dream and pride. We have taken lessons from the fact that the darker the darkness, the brighter the light. At every turn, we have employed the elements of building walls of  neighbourliness, unity, love, honesty and diligence that constitutes to the building of a stronger and better Confluence state.
“Our economy remains resilient even in the face of debilitating resources. We have proved that a resilient economy is possible in the face of crass economic doldrums”.
We are gradually moving away from a monolithic economy to diversify the economy of Kogi that is hinged on the people; our most precious resource, and on Agriculture, Tourism and Mining, the three critical pillars of our economy.  We are positioning these three sectors as our foreign exchange earners and the drivers of our economy.
Collaborating with security agencies at the State and national levels, we have kept our State relatively safe, despite bordering about 10 states and the FCT, to build a robust foundation for our economic renaissance.
We agree that there are challenges, but our resolve is stronger.
If, in the face of economic quagmire and limited resources, we have stabilized the economy, paid salaries as and when due, substantially paid pensions, entrenched and redefined governance through plugging of loopholes and checking of excesses and built infrastructure to entrench socioeconomic development, we have proved that we are on the path to sacking poverty and advancing the lot of our people.
All these lofty accomplishments is made possible through the purposeful leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello,  which evidently validates the numerous calls on him to replicate same at the  Natonal level. Emperical proofs and dividends of good governance that kogites are enjoying makes him an appropriate choice.
Our experience as a nation and a State has shown that real independence does not answer to number but to political will, sound economic policies, strong institutions, rule of law and a people who are resolved to take their destinies in their own hands.
As we celebrate this 61st anniversary, let us remain steadfast in our belief and hope for a better tomorrow that our policies, programmes and strategies will bring.
Let us collaborate with government to change the narrative of propaganda, bad governance and together, take Kogi state to the mountain tops.
Once again, happy 61st Independence Anniversary; I wish you a better and stronger Kogi and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Thank you and God bless.
