CHIEF ONOJA ADDRESSES KOGI APPEALS–WYEP BENEFICIARIES AT WORKSHOP
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Chief (Dr.) Edward Onoja on Monday, reinforced the commitment of the Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s New Direction government to reposition the agricultural sector with support policy thrusts on food security, local production, job creation and economic diversification.
He disclosed this at a Workshop for Kogi State beneficiaries of the Women and Youth Empowerment Programme (WYEP), under the Agro Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support– APPEALS Project, organised by the State coordination office.
The objective of the Workshop was to train beneficiaries on the World Bank’s community procurement guidelines, procedures, basic principles on how to own and operate corporate internet banking, and financial management to facilitate disbursement of funds for the establishment of their agro-businesses.
In his address, the State Deputy Governor and Chairman, State steering committee of KOGI APPEALS, Chief Onoja underscored the importance of the workshop for the beneficiaries which he said will help them with the knowledge of facilitating their self sufficiency. He urged them to cooperate with officials of the Project to deliver on its gains and appreciated His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for providing a conducive environment for the Project to thrive in the State.
On his part, the APPEALS National Project Coordinator told the beneficiaries that the workshop has been organized to enhance their knowledge on the community-based procurement process, financial management, and electronic payment systems. He thanked the Minister of Agriculture, Mall. Sabo Nanono for his support towards the implementation of the APPEALS Project in Nigeria.
In their joint remarks, the APPEALS State Project Coordinator, Dr. Sanni Abdullahi Ozomata, National Project Accountant, Dr. Tijani Ajayi, and National Women and Livelihood Specialist, Madam Heather Akaani noted that over 427 businesses and investment plans have been approved by the World Bank with beneficiaries’ bank accounts credited with the required funds accordingly.
They advised the beneficiaries to approach the empowerment process with all seriousness to pave way for accountability, transparency, and sustainability.
Whilst scoring Kogi State high on milestones in meeting the initial stipulated conditions for participating in the Project, they lauded Governor Bello for his unwaivering agricultural policies in the State.
