On 18th October, 2018, Comr. Alonge Isreal was elected as the NYCN Chairman, Kogi Chapter to Complete the tenure of Mr. Oladele Nihi following his resignation. Immediately after the election, the chairman made some promises that would promote the council in the state.
Within the limited years left for him, he has been able to record tremendous achievements. Among the achievements not limited to these includes
1. Promotion of peace among youths in Kogi state. Before now, there had been strife and ethnic divisions among youths, but of recent we’ve seen harmonious cohesion.
2. Participation in Politics – the rate of youths’ participation in Kogi politics during his tenure is eminently unmatchable with the past. He has used the position to influence participation in politics and this has yielded positive results, today His Excellency the Executive Governor GYB has graciously appointed all former LGA Coordinators as LG Secretaries, majority others as SSAs.
3. Eradication of Thuggry in Kogi State- In the past, youths were known as thugs for politicians especially youth leaders, but today with Alonge’s humility and purposive leadership traits, the idea of involving in thuggery has become a thing of the past.
4. Synergy with the Government– Comr. Alonge Isreal has within the period of leadership related absolutely and positively well with GYB and the government and that is what earn the massive ”soap cuttings” for the Youths. In Nigeria today, Kogi State has the highest number of Youths in governance and positions of leadership in government, I stand to be corrected.
5. Transparent Administration- One of his cardinal promises during his acceptance of speech is to run a transparent leadership which is absolutely done otherwise we would have witness a rancorous period which was a common practice of the past.
6. Promotion of Party Structure.- Comr. Alonge has used his office to promote the APC party in the state. These were visible during the party registration periods when youths were mobilized for APC party registration, today the numbers of Youths in APC had never been recorded. Also during elections, the roles of Comr. Alonge in his Local government and state can not be underestimated.
*MY TAKE*
1. Political Culture: In Nigeria political practice, if a person is elected on a post and has a lot of dividends for the electorates and has performed credibly he may be given another opportunity to consolidate on his performance, it is not eureka yet for Com. Alonge, he deserves another term to consolidate on his achievements.
2. In Kogi State today, virtually every occupant of political offices is enjoying a second term, they include, political appointees, Assembly members, Council Chairmen, even LGA Coordinators who were Coordinators for 3 and half years now Secretaries for another 3 yrs and also His Excellency.
Comr. Alonge Isreal should be allowed to continue a second term in order to consolidate on his achievement.
3. The English adage says to whom much is given, much is expected. Comr. Alonge has given much of his, under him Coordinators became Secretaries and Sup. Councillors, SSAs, PAs and Councillors, with all these achievements he deserves a second term.
4. Comr. Alonge has only spent less than three years in office and has achieved these much, he should be given more opportunities because it is not how long but how well.
5. Comr. Alonge during his period has established a good relationship with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of the State who recognises and gave financial life to the Council , the government, CEDO the Dep. Gov., Chief of Staff, Hon. Taufiq, the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Ashiru, Commissioner for Youths and many more, in short Comr. Alonge is a friend of the Government of APC. He has been tested and proved reliable, it will take years for the government to get a reliable person lyk Comr. Alonge.
Please let’s all support and give Comr. Alonge another opportunity, he deserves a SECOND CHANCE.
