A Nigerian cancer awareness organization has honored the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Pharm. Abdulkareem Asuku Moh’d Jamiu on World Cancer Day for his humanitarian services, especially in the health sector.
The organization, Aare Yeye of Yoruba land presented the award to the Chief of Staff on Thursday in Lokoja where they stated that Pharm. Asuku through his Pharm. Abdulkareem Asuku Youth Empowerment Foundation(PAYEEF) has treated over 104 indigent patients and performed over 30 surgeries from January 2020 till date.
They also commended the Chief of Staff for his detribalized stance and transparency in selecting patients regardless of their backgrounds, religion, gender, ethnicity, or clan.
The leader of the group, Yeye Omoleye thanked the Chief of Staff for his continued support to all those facing various health challenges and for allowing himself “to be used by God to bless others.”
“We commend you for your exceptional leadership and continuing support for those you have helped to heal,”
The Chief of Staff in his remark appreciated the group for the recognition and award. He also appreciated Yeye Omoleye, the Yeye Oge of Okun land for the wonderful work she has been doing.
“I am grateful for this recognition and I will continue to advocate for funding to develop treatments and, eventually, cures for all diseases, including cancer diseases,” he said.
However, Pharm. Asuku narrated the horrible experience he has had with breast cancer patients and urged everyone to pay attention, screen themselves, and check for lumps and should not allow it to escalate.
The Chief of Staff called for continued awareness for women and the general public as early detection will save more lives.
“Once again, I am grateful for this award and for whatever I did to deserve this award, this award will only encourage me to do more” he concluded.
