APRIL 1, 2020.
Comrade Israel Femi Alonge, the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, has implored well to do individuals, business moguls, cooperate organizations and political leaders not to relent in being helpful hands in the fight against the pandemic Corona Virus in Kogi State.
Comrade Alonge, who  decried the low response and not too positive turnouts of individuals, political leaders and cooperate organizations towards extending special hands of assistance to the government in the fight against the dreaded Corona Virus, posited that this is not time to be political party fanatics but a time to show social solidarity to the government as she fights against the pandemic ravaging not just the country but the World at large.
“This thing called Corona Virus; COVID-19, has obviously become a social problem bedeviling our peaceful existence as humans, but in a bid to curb it and further prevent its spread to innocent yet vulnerable humans, we must not see this thing to be a one man’s battle to fight and win we should rather see it to be a battle for all and sundries. Hence, a collective show of commitments could come in form of rendering financial, health and media assistance. These assistance ranging from provision of food and shelter for our dear Kogi citizens especially to those who can’t conveniently afford any of these in a time that is woven around the ” Sit at home “directives should be encouraged at all spheres.”
The Chairman who made this passionate appeal through his Chief Press Secretary Jacob Abraham, further enjoined every potential helping hands to partner with the already constituted Kogi State COVID-19 Squadron Committee; a committee set up by the State government, chaired by the Deputy Governor Edward Onoja and featuring other members with reputable political and religious profiles. A sincere partnership with this committee will further strengthen and burst the State’s “Shielding walls” against the penetration of Corona Virus.
It is no doubt that  ordinarily Kogi State which borders no fewer than eight States in the country, should have recorded a  case of the Virus’ existence  but for the proactive measures already taken by the State Governor and his administrative team via the early constitution and inauguration of the COVID-19 Squadron Committee in partnership with the NCDC which has helped bring to the masses massive yet progressively informing sensitization on the Corona Virus.
These measures has in no doubt helped the State stand out as a Corona Virus free State. On this note, we must ensure this record is maintained and all walls must be greatly fenced with everyone’s widow’s giving spirit.
The Chairman also commends the efforts of the United Bank of Africa -UBA, Kogi State Chapter for supporting the State with the applaudable sum of millions of Naira. The Chairman described this gesture as timely and like Oliver Twist, did not fail to ask for more.
Our religious institutions should not just leave this fight to the government alone. They should join hands in ensuring this fight in gloriously won by the people to the glory of God – the creator of all that is good.
This is not a period to shift political blames neither is it a time to score cheap political points. Rather, it is a time to stand unified as indivisible human entity Alonge charged.
Just like we have as a council displayed uncompromising supports in the campaign against Corona Virus in the State, the the chairman assured of more commitments and further calls for the gown of patriotism to be worn by all and sundries especially in a time like this.
