KOGI STATE COVID-19 DAILY PRESS BRIEFING
SATURDAY 28TH MARCH, 2020.
AS WE COMMENCE ENFORCEMENT OF OUR SIT AT HOME DIRECTIVE TO CONTAIN THE SPREAD OF COVID-19
1. Today, 28th March, 2020 marks the beginning of the enforcement of the State Government’s sit at home directive aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 to our dear State. The move is precautionary in the face of the increasing rate of the pandemic in the nation in the past 48 hours.
2. We urge our people to understand the decisions we have taken are in the best interest of their wellbeing and to keep them safe from the ravaging pandemic. That was why the Chairman of the Squadron Committee and the Deputy Governor of the state, His Excellency Chief Edward Onoja took his time to explain the rational behind the directives yesterday. The State Government is out to protect you from the fangs of the pandemic. Our Containment strategy is not to entirely lock down the State, but to restrict movement and encourage people to stay at home as much as possible and to also observe the health protocols earlier published by the Committee.
3. COVID-19 is a global pandemic. Therefore, there are global standards for managing it. To this end, we urge our people to shun self medication, especially taking drugs that have not been validated or recommended by the appropriate regulatory authorities. 4. As the NCDC is the regulatory body in the nation, the Kogi State COVID19 Squadron Committee is the Team set up by the State Government to work with NCDC on standards and management. We call on our citizens to route their contributions, either financial or material or even expertise through the Committee. By so doing, we shall be able to maintain the standards of resources given to our people. Our lines are always open.
5. The Kogi COVID-19 Squadron Committee will therefore, clampdown on any attempt to give unauthorized medical items to our people. All donations should either pass through the NCDC or our Committee in the State, so that we can ascertain their quality and whether their use is appropriate. We owe our citizens protection from substandard medical consumables in this era of emergency manufacturers who are out to cash in on the situation at hand.
7. We wish to express our profound appreciation to our patriotic citizens who have donated medical resources through our Committee. Of note is a Corp Member from Kogi State serving in the FCT. Others have also reached out to the Committee expressing their readiness to make donations towards battling the pandemic. Government can not do it alone. We need all hands on deck to defeat the monster staring us in the face.
8. We also challenge researchers in our citadels of learning to join their colleagues around the world in halting the march of the deadly virus.
9. Kogites are advised to stay safe and sit at home in order to reduce their chances of contracting the virus.
